Echowide Music | Interview | Tow and Wertigal

For upcoming IH release “Wait a minute” we recruited two talented remixers from Estonia and did a little interview with them, so here it is!

Tow interview:

1) Hi, could you introduce yourself to EWM community members? ( name, age, a little bit about yourself )

My name is Kaspar Sujetov ,i was born 26 years ago in mid-Estonia. My artist name comes from the words Two Opposite Worlds and what it means is that my music can variate from very happy and uplifting to depressing or deep, depending of the current mood.

2) When did you start making music? (how did you get into making music, what where your influences, what did you listen at first? who where / is your mentor?)

Music making has always been a dream of mine and i got into it in 2004. By that time i was in love with drum and bass and immediately started trying to make it. I didnt have any mentor at first so it took a while to get things running. But luckily i found people with same interest in music forums, who where willing to share their knowledge with beginners.
I listen to a lot of different music from Sarah Brightman to new metal and psy trance. There something good in every different style.

3) What kind of music you mainly like to produce and make? (whats your main style?)

My main style is drum and bass with its fast tempo, fat bass and  rhythmic drums. But since drum and bass itself has a lot of different subcategory´s ,from atmospheric drumfunk  to trancier electrostep or liquid funk, then my music can variate a lot too. But then again, that is what i like about this style.

4) Do you use software of hardware equipment for making music? (describe your equipment, what do you like to use?)

At the moment i only use software equipment for making music. But since my sound is more melodic, with natural elements like guitars and pianos then its important to get good samples, so who knows, maybe ill learn to play some instrument in the future.

5) If you could say one word to describe your music, what it would be?

Like i said, my music can variate from one style to another and from darker to lighter ,so its hard to find one word to describe it. My artist name comes from the words Two Opposite Worlds and that is exactly what it means.

6) What do you think about Estonian music scene (underground and mainstream) and whos your favorite artist at the moment?

I think think things look good in Estonian music scene right now. A lot of good artists out there and a lot of talented boys and girls that havent been discovered yet. Favorite artist in Estonia at the moment would be  S.I.N i guess

7) Favorite artist from outside Estonia?

My favorite artists from outside of  Estonia would be Burial, June Miller and Unquote & Mr. Sizef. Really emotional stuff for me

8) What are your future goals in music industry?

In the future i hope to develop myself to produce more better sounding music.

9) Do you have an musical education (learned piano, guitar or graduated some music college?)
I don`t have any musical education and i havent learned to play any instrument yet. But who knows

10) Your 5 tips for a beginner producer (how to start making music, what to learn first?)

1. Be yourself 2. Be patient but consistent cos perfection takes time 3. Listen to others but always try things yourself. That way you can find out what sound suits you the most and makes you find yourself in music 4. Don´t hold your knowledge only to yourself, because life is too short 5. look at the third point
The most easier way to start making music is if you have a friend who makes music and is willing to share his or her knowledge.

Same questions to Wertigal:

1) Hi, could you introduce yourself to EWM community members? ( name, age, a little bit about yourself )

Hi, I’m a fellow named Martin Peterson and I’m currently 18 years old.
There really isn’t much to tell about myself,
except that I’m real passionate about energetic, mental and darker sounding music
that scares older people.

2) When did you start making music? (how did you get into making music, what where your influences, what did you listen at first? who where / is your mentor?)

Hard to say when I exactly started making music,
I guess it was somewhere between 2001/2002 when I got my first computer and just started messing around
with different software.
Back then I was into hardcore hip-hop groups like Onyx and NWA, but as time went on I discovered reggae and psychedelic rock that led me to my love drum ‘n’ bass (neurofunk and techstep), occasional psychedelic trance and technical death metal, so I have had many influences through the years of musical journey that still continues.
A good friend Tow has supported and much helped me all these years, I consider him as my mentor.

3) What kind of music you mainly like to produce and make? (whats your main style?)

I really don’t have a main style, I love to experiment with many styles ranging from psy trance to dubstep,
I even experimented with classical music.
But if I had to pick just one, it would be dnb.

4) Do you use software of hardware equipment for making music? (describe your equipment, what do you like to use?)

Well, it’s just me and my computer.

5) If you could say one word to describe your music, what it would be?

Dark.

6) What do you think about Estonian music scene (underground and mainstream) and who’s your favorite artist at the moment?

Honestly i’m not really aware of Estonian mainstream as I don’t listen to radio or MTV.
Underground scene, on the other hand, I can say is pretty colourful, we have here so many talented artists and one of them whose work I’m lately into is called ETR, breakcore artist, really nice sounds.

7) Favorite artist from outside Estonia?

Desimal, there are more though, like Juno Reactor group and all the boys and girls pushing those neuro-techish sounds.

8) What are your future goals in music industry?

I haven’t focused on any goals yet, I think I just want to get into the minds of young people like myself.

9) Do you have an musical education (learned piano, guitar or graduated some music college?)

Actually no, though I wouldn’t mind learning any instrument.

10) Your 5 tips for a beginner producer (how to start making music, what to learn first?)

1) Get to know your DAW.

2) Don’t limit yourself with only one style.

3) Practice hard and long.

4) If you can, ask for tips from more experienced musicians.

5) If you feel stuck, get some rest and you might have developed a much different perspective.
